What you need to know is that I finally had a baby.

As I mentioned in my first post, this blog is the chronicling of a “2-women-trying-to-make-a-baby” journey. You know the type: oh, it’s so hard; OMG, I think it worked this time; crap, I’ll never get pregnant.

I am now a 37-year-old work-from-home lover of hyphens. My wife—we’ll call her K—is a kick-ass massage therapist, who has a second job and becomes more wonderful every day. K and I have been together 10 years, and we began this journey in 2008.

Why start a blog?

Well, there’s been a lot of crazy sh!t thrown our way over the past few years that people say I should be writing about. And since (I hope) we made it through the worst of it, we gathered up the troops to head full-steam back into the fray. (Future adult child, please do not take the reference to your conception and birth as “the fray” the wrong way. It only feels like a fight sometimes.)

Besides our kid, I hope others on similar journeys will read Basted and find something useful in it. Everyone’s journey is unique (especially for us queers!), but there are some “rights of passage” that we all must go through. I hope these will be entertainingly, or at least familiarly, chronicled here.

This is great! My partner and I had similar experiences (our daughter just turned 4 and you met her at R.E.’s birthday party). I’d love to send you what I wrote about our adventures!

As you probably know, I simply cannot wait to meet that baby! So glad to be a part of the journey.
